We are pleased to announce that The Sun Inn Pooley Bridge is the official pub for the

Ullswater Way Challenge – Sunday 23rd October 2016

Fancy a steady lap of Ullswater celebrating the newly open Ullswater Way? If you like your walking and running in a relaxed, ‘no fuss’ manner with like minded people this is the event for you.

‘UWC’ is a new 24 mile event, open to walkers and runners, starting at Pooley Bridge and going anti-clockwise around the Lake. Start anytime you wish between 8:00am and 10:00am, and do as much or as little as you wish. Ullswater has it’s famous ‘Steamers’ that will allow you to cruise gracefully back down the Lake if you don’t fancy the second half or want an easier day.

From Pooley, you’ll climb gently up to Maiden Castle and to Watermillock and Gowbarrow. The route will use the high level section over Gowbarrow summit, then down to High Cascades Bridge upstream from Aira Force. After High Cascades car park, you’ll stay high and traverse around the top of Glencoyne Park, with amazing views of Ullswater and Patterdale.

Descending passed Greenside Mines you’ll pass through Glenridding, then on towards Patterdale. From Side Farm the Lakeside path takes Sandwick and Howtown, before the climb upto The Cockpit Stone Circle before a gentle descent back to the finish at Pooley Bridge.

There will be a number of checkpoints and drink stations, and a few details to sort as yet. If you’ve done one of our events before you’ll know what to expect; good fun, value for money, tea and cake, tasty ‘nibbles’… more tea and cake.!

If are a runner looking for a ‘pb’, want a goody bag, chip timing, cowbells, a trail of correx arrows, and music ….this is NOT the event for you!

But rest assured, you will have a good time, be well supported and enjoy some stunning scenery and a variety of trails. We will also be needed a few event staff during the day, so please do let me know if you want to help.

Places will be limited to just 150 participants and entries will open on Weds 3rd August at 12:00 noon –

We look forward to having some fun!
